Darkwood Sapling is a type of sapling added by the Twilight Forest mod that is sometimes dropped when Darkwood Leaves are broken by hand or decay naturally. It is used to grow Darkwood Trees, a type of tree that makes up the thick, dense canopy of the Dark Forest biome in the Twilight Forest. These trees consist of Darkwood Leaves and Darkwood Wood. Darkwood Saplings are a very inefficient way of generating wood as they also generate Darkwood Leaves, a very difficult to break and flame-retardant leaf type, as well as less logs and less Root blocks than other saplings such as the Canopy Tree Sapling.
Darkwood Saplings are a very difficult-to-use sapling type for a tree farm or a long-term method of wood gathering. It is possible to gather Darkwood Wood while underneath the canopy of a Dark Forest as a temporary wood solution, but these should not be used as a long-term solution due to the quantity of Root blocks and Darkwood Leaves they generate. These are both cumbersome and frustrating blocks to clean up and it is nearly impossible to grow a subsequent Darkwood Tree without cleaning up the previous one grown in its spot.
This makes Darkwood Saplings both difficult to acquire in that Darkwood Leaves must be broken or decay to acquire them (both difficult tasks to accomplish) and disproportionately cumbersome to use. However, Darkwood Saplings could be used as a possible method of griefing or "pranking" by growing them inside or near someone else's base, making them not only difficult to use but also potentially slightly dangerous on a multiplayer server.
