The Advanced Pump is essentially an upgrade to the regular Pump. The biggest advantage over the regular Pump is that it removes both source blocks and flowing liquid, making the pumping less laggy. It also covers a much larger distance and depth. Liquiducts or Fluid Pipes can be attached to its sides (but not its top) to extract the liquid. The Advanced Pump works especially well in the Nether.

If Liquiducts are used, unlike the BuildCraft pump, it will need a redstone signal to output the liquid. Similarly, a Wooden Fluid Pipe and engine is necessary where with a BC Pump it would be absent.

In order for this to work, it needs Mining Pipes in the uppermost right slot, a supply of EU, and somewhere to send the liquid.

The pump, while functioning in a similar way to a redpower pump, has been known to encounter some issues for example in the nether where draining a large square (thereby leaving sheer lava walls) is not uncommon.

Mining Pipe can be retrieved by using an Miner placed over the existing pipe. Make sure the miner has an adjacent chest before powering the Miner as it will spit the pipe onto the ground. It's also good to note that the Miner is LV (32 EU/p) and not MV (128 EU/p) like the Pump.

Tips[edit]

  • The Pneumatic Generator Upgrade allows the Advanced Pump to accept MJ as power. Used with Energy Tesseracts, this reduces the amount of infrastructure around the Pump. However, at maximum output the Tesseract will only produce the equivalent of 40 EU (100 MJ max output converted to EU at a rate of 2.5 MJ/1 EU). Thus, two or more Tesseracts may be desirable to approach the 126 EU/t maximum of the Pump.
  • The Advanced Pump covers an area approximately 4-5 chunks2 and is limited in depth only by its supply of Mining Pipes.
  • Large oil geysers will require more than 64 Mining Pipes; pipes can be automatically resupplied through the top face, such as by an Electric Buffer.
  • When pumping Oil, the Advanced Pump will not continue to drain after the Oil source has been depleted (making it valuable in exploiting offshore oil).

This recipe is a bit flexible. It can use BuildCraft Pumps in place of the IndustrialCraft version. Additionally, the Advanced Machine Block can be replaced with either a Steel or Titanium Machine Hull.

Bugs[edit]

  • There is a bug that allows for infinite duplication of mining pipe in the MindCrack Pack (v8.3.2). When breaking the big block under the pump with the pump still placed, the block will continue to re-appear. Each time it is broken, it drops a mining pipe, thus giving the player infinite pipes.
  • The pump will occasionally fail to begin lowering its pipes. if this occurs, simply place a block directly under it then remove the block.
  • If the pump is turned on and off quickly, And no water blocks are seen missing. The water will disappear When touched regardless of mode. Only if there is Air next to the player contact point will it remove water. A Screen shot can be found here. Touching the water seems to cause it to 'update' in some way Regardless of game mode. After i refiled the water levels the pump light was green again and no water disappeared. Even if i touched it, after some time i turned the pump on, and off real quick by means of the red stone engine. So appears that the pump is faster then the updates and if you pump water and manage to avoid the 'pumped' surface blocks you can touch air bubbles under water and create the random air under water looking close to what i got in this picture. The block area I have a 4x5 by 9 depth (the pump is center of the 5 and 2 front 1 back blocks.
