Fusion Coils are blocks added by GregTech, used from the beginning as a component in making a Mulltiblock Structure. They are necessary for the operation of the Fusion Reactor, regardless of version. The newest versions of GregTech require a far more complicated multiblock systems with Fusion Coils remaining in the core.
As used in GregTech 2.82c's "Fusion Reactor Mark 2"[edit]
Fusion Coils are a block that must necessarily be placed in certain positions within a larger Multiblock Structure. While several parts of the Multiblock can be swapped out, this is not the case with the Fusion Coils; these must always be present in the right location or the reactor simply will not work. They aren't complicated, they can't be interacted with outside of crafting, breaking, and placing, but they must be there, as shown in Layer 2 of the image below:
As Used in Versions Prior to GregTech 2.82c[edit]
In order for a Fusion Reactor working under the older system to function properly, 24 of these must be placed in a horizontal ring around the Fusion Reactor Block, as shown in the figure at left. Otherwise, the GUI on the reactor will say "Coils: No", and will fail to function. The completed Fusion Coil ring should have a diameter of 7 blocks. Removal or destruction of any of the Fusion Coils will render a Fusion Reactor inoperable until the missing coils are replaced.
